PRISTINA, March 12 (Hina) - NATO will remain in Kosovo for as long as it is necessary to ensure peace and safe life for all, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General John Craddock, said during a visit to the Visoki Decani monastery on Monday.

Protection of people and cultural monuments is very important. We are determined not to allow extremists on any side to put those valuables at risk, Craddock was quoted by the press service of the Serbian Orthodox Church as saying during talks with monastery officials.

Craddock called for all refugees to be allowed to return to their homes.

The prior of the monastery, Bishop Teodosije, said that from the outset of the conflict in Kosovo the Serbian Orthodox Church had condemned every form of violence and offered cooperation to all people of good will.

Craddock also met for talks with Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Premier Agim Ceku, saying that the UN Security Council should resolve the issue of Kosovo's status as soon as possible.
