ZAGREB, March 6 (Hina) - The war veterans association known by its
Croatian acronym UBIUDR has filed a request with the Office of the Chief
Public Prosecutor, the Government and Parliament for an investigation and
prosecution of those responsible for the destruction of Croatia's churches and
historical heritage during the 1991-1995 war. The association issued
a statement on Tuesday saying that Serbian and Montenegrin forces had severely
damaged or burnt down 720 Roman Catholic churches in the country and totally
destroyed 207. It stressed that no one had been brought to justice for those
crimes.
UBIUDR appealed to the national broadcasting corporation HRT to show
documentary films on the destruction of Catholic churches and cultural property
during the Serbian aggression rather than "controversial and malicious
documentaries such as Lora."
