"The Serb Orthodox Church in Dalmatia said in a statement on February 4 that the situation in Kistanje was alarming due to damage caused to a farm building belonging to the Krka monastery and constant attacks on returnees and their property, which is not true and does not reflect the security situation in the Kistanje area, which is good," reads the statement issued by the police department.
The police department said that on February 4 it had received a report on damage caused to the building belonging to the Serb Orthodox Church and two reports from a 65-year-old man from Kistanje, who said that unidentified persons, probably children, had caused damage to his house by throwing stones at it.
"Police acted promptly and professionally in both cases to establish relevant facts, which show that the incidents in Kistanje were not of such proportions and consequences as claimed by the Serb Orthodox Church," the statement read.
The police said that the church building, repossessed by the Serb Orthodox Church in December 2006, had been abandoned and looted during the property-rights dispute preceding its repossession, so police were unable to establish the time when damage to the building had been caused and its property stolen.
As for the incident in Kistanje, the police said that minor damage was caused to the house.
An investigation is under way to identify the perpetrators in both cases, the police said.
