ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Friday received Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht for talks on bilateral relations, the President's Office said in a press release.

President Mesic said that Croatia and Belgium had good bilateral relations and that they should boost their economic ties.

Thanking Belgium for its assistance during and after the 1991-1995 Homeland War, Mesic said that today Croatia no longer needed humanitarian aid, but investment. He added that the number of Belgian tourists vacationing along the Croatian Adriatic coast was growing by the year and that there were possibilities for Belgian companies to invest in the Croatian tourist industry.

The Croatian president also highlighted the need for intensifying cooperation between Belgian and Croatian sea and river ports, saying that the Belgian port of Antwerp could serve as a model to Croatian ports in terms of organisation.

Also discussed was the situation in the region, with both officials agreeing that the stability of the region should be preserved and that regional cooperation should continue.
