ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Wednesday received the permanent representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Croatia, Yuri Afanasiev, for talks on the current activities of the UNDP and preparations for a conference at which a report on social exclusion would be presented, the President's Office said in a press release.

The report deals with the status and prospects of different categories of the population who are, or feel to be, excluded from principle social trends, including the jobless, disabled and minorities.

Afanasiev commended Mesic for his consistent support for the United Nations and programmes of its various agencies.

Afanasiev presented an aspect of the reform of the United Nations relating to the uniform representation of the world organisation in member states, saying that it was very suitable to become the first country to implement such reform.

Mesic expressed full support for the planned reform of the UN and the activities of the UNDP, highlighting the importance of the UN's role in Croatia, not as an institution providing aid, but as an adviser and initiator of individual activities, the press release concluded.
