ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - The Hlipo business optimism index was 112.8 points in December and although it is lower than in November (114.5 points) it still indicates a continuing economic boom, the market research agency Hendal and the "Lider" business weekly which designed the Hlipo index, reported on Wednesday.

The most optimistic business sector is tourism, with the optimism index amounting to 133.1 points, which is the highest level of business optimism in this sector ever. In relation to November, the optimism growth in this sector is 10.5 index points and 20 index points in relation to December.

The growth of business optimism was also reported in the construction sector (132.5). Nearly 97 percent of business people from this sector expect a favourable or unchanged business situation, while close to 90 percent said the present situation was good or satisfactory.

Somewhat lower values, which are nevertheless still marked by optimism, were reported in the sector of transport and services (116.7 points or 7.3 index points down from the months before). Hendal and Lider weekly started measuring business optimism in June 2005. Their surveys cover 400 big, medium and small businesses in Croatia and the research is based on monthly opinion polls in manufacturing, construction, commerce, transport, services and tourism sectors.
