The parliament (Sabor) changed legislation on taxes on tobacco products and as a result the same tax rate will be imposed on all types of cigarettes as of 1 June, in conformity with the European Union tobacco products excise system.
MPs adjusted 17 laws to the law on local self-government, rescinding the existence of municipal, town and city governments and transferring their powers to municipal heads, town and city mayors and county prefects, who will be elected by popular vote at the next local elections.
Some of those amended laws refer to legislation on zoning and construction, utilities, socially supported housing construction, as well as on the financing of culture, fire-fighting laws, laws on public roads etc.
The agenda of the ongoing session has been expanded to include the government's motion on the ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty which regulates Croatia's admission to NATO in April.
The session will resume next week.
