KARLOVAC, March 19 (Hina) - A court ruling on the conviction of seven people, including Danijel Miocic, a former driver for Transport Minister Bozidar Kalmeta, who were guilty of attempted extortion, became final after the relevant
appellate court upheld the Karlovac municipal court ruling in the case, the spokeswoman for the municipal court told Hina on Thursday.
KARLOVAC, March 19 (Hina) - A court ruling on the conviction of
seven people, including Danijel Miocic, a former driver for Transport Minister
Bozidar Kalmeta, who were guilty of attempted extortion, became final after the
relevant appellate court upheld the Karlovac municipal court ruling in the
case, the spokeswoman for the municipal court told Hina on Thursday.
The first accused, Danijel Miocic, was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment.
He and the other defendants were found guilty of attempted extortion of
HRK 460,000 (approximately EUR 63,000) from businessman Mico Valentic and were
sentenced to prison terms ranging from one to two years in November 2007.
Miocic's close friend Elvis Lucic was given the highest prison term of
two years for his part in the case.
The convicts should also pay court costs in the amount of HRK 3,704
each.
The attempts by the accused to force Valentic to pay them had been
thwarted by police officers from the Karlovac Police Department.
