ZAGREB, May 20 (Hina) - During Question Time on Wednesday in the
Croatian parliament, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader agreed with a proposal by an
Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) parliamentarian that a children's home in Pula
should be again named after Ruza Petrovic, a heroine of the Partizan movement
who was tortured by Fascists in Istria during the Second World War.
IDS MP Damir Kajin complained that the relevant ministry had turned down the
request for giving back that name to the children's home which had been named
after Petrovic for years but was renamed in the meantime.
"I am for giving back that name as Ruza Petrovic deserves it. But you
should also vehemently insist on giving back the name "Zagreb" to a cinema in
Pula which was renamed after an actress who is believed to have been (Benito)
Mussolini's mistress," responed Sanader, alluding to Alida Valli, born in Pula
in in 1921 and who was an Italian actress.
A few years ago, the Zagreb cinema in Pula was renamed as the Valli
cinema.
