ZAGREB, June 9 (Hina) - Today's meeting between government officials and the Croatian Employers Association (HUP) in the government's offices was a working meeting which Prime Minister Ivo Sanader did not attend. The talks were part of preparations for a session of the Economic Council, to be held on Wednesday, and for a meeting between Sanader and the social partners, to be held in the near future, government spokesman Zlatko Mehun said on Tuesday.

PM Sanader was not present at today's meeting and the government was represented by Deputy Prime Ministers Damir Polancec and Jadranka Kosor and Finance Minister Ivan Suker, said the spokesman.

After the meeting, HUP representatives declined to address reporters who were waiting for statements outside the government headquarters in Zagreb, and would not say if they had met Sanader, as announced by some media.

Today's meeting focused on anti-recession measures, models for overcoming the ongoing crisis, and possibilities for improving social dialogue.

HUP leaders were informed about what the government was doing with regard to financial policy and about the expected impact of the recent successful issuance of government bonds on the international market on the economy, Mehun said.

The Economic Council is expected to consider these issues on Wednesday, and preparations are under way for a meeting between PM Sanader and the social partners, to be held in the next two weeks, Mehun said.
