"Great Britain offers support to Croatia on its EU membership bid," Jadrokovic said after the meeting, adding that he had informed Foreign Secretary Hague about Croatia's efforts to complete its accession negotiations with the EU as soon as possible.
"I have received clear indications that Great Britain will strongly support Croatia," the minister said.
Jandrokovic went on to say that EU membership criteria were well known and the same for everybody and that there were no new requirements.
"There are no new criteria. The existing ones are very strict anyway, and being in the final stage of negotiations Croatia is well aware of how demanding it is to negotiate," he said in an address to reporters.
According to a press release from the Croatian Foreign Ministry, at their talks Jandrokovic and the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Vanackere agreed that Croatia should continue implementing reforms and that settling outstanding issues with its neighbours was necessary but that it was not a prerequisite for EU membership.
According to the press release, the Belgian official said that before entering the EU, Croatia should set up certain mechanisms for solving outstanding issues with its neighbours, but added that the settlement of those issues was not a prerequisite for joining the European Union.
Jandrokovic thanked Belgium for its support to Croatia on its road towards the Union and stressed that Zagreb would try to complete the technical negotiations with the EU by the end of this year.
Belgium will hold the rotating presidency of the bloc in the second half of 2010.
