Italian Coast Guard ship visiting Rijeka

ZAGREB, 8 Feb (Hina) - The Italian Coast Guard vessel Alfredo Peluso has arrived in the Croatian northern Adriatic port of Rijeka for a friendly visit.

On Wednesday, the vessel was visited by Mayor Marko Filipović, Italian Consul-General Davide Bradanini and harbour master Darko Glažar. They were welcomed by the ship's commander Antonio Barbieri.

The Alfredo Peluso arrived in Rijeka on Tuesday, after visiting Venice and Koper, Slovenia. It will stay until 9 February when it will continue its voyage to ports in Montenegro, Albania and Greece.

Barbieri thanked Rijeka and all Croatian citizens for their hospitality, saying that the ship was visiting as part of the Eureka project, aimed at promoting cooperation and improving maritime safety in the Adriatic countries.

Glažar said that representatives of the Italian ship would visit the National Search and Rescue Centre, which is based in Rijeka, in the afternoon. He recalled that Italy, Slovenia and Croatia had an agreement in the event of maritime pollution.

Filipović said he was looking forward to further cooperation in maritime transport between institutions on both sides of the Adriatic.
