Divjak: EU countries to invest more in digital transformation next year

ZAGREB, June 23 (Hina) - All EU member states are investing a lot more in equipment, teacher training and digital transformation after the coronavirus pandemic forced them to resort to remote learning, Croatian Science and Education Minister Blazenka Divjak said in Zagreb on Tuesday after a video conference with her EU counterparts.

The conference focused on lessons learned from the past period and preparations for the next academic year. It was the fifth and last meeting of EU education ministers during the Croatian presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of this year.

"Plans for next year generally include more investment in equipment, teacher training and the digital transformation of the entire system," Divjak said.

"This shows that the strategic decision by Croatia in the past two years to invest much more in digital transformation was very much justified," she added.

Divjak recalled that Croatia had provided over 26,000 laptops for teachers and more than 90,000 tablets for students for this school year. More than 27,000 laptops and 100,000 tablets are planned for next year.

The discussion showed that the gradual opening of schools did not increase the spread of the virus.
