Agriculture Minister Marija Vuckovic held on Monday at the National University Library in Zagreb a video conference with the EU member states' farm ministers.
Two relevant EU commissioners also joined the conference - agriculture commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski and health and food safety commissioner Stella Kyriakides. The goal of the conference was to exchange views on communications published almost three weeks ago by the European Commission on the "Farm to Fork" strategy and the "EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030".
Both strategies are a part of the European Green Deal and have a great influence on the future of food production, it was emphasised in the Ministry's press release.
"The Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies will play a crucial role in the implementation of the European Green Deal and the Recovery Plan for Europe. What is even more important, we have discussed today the connections between different processes and the coordination between the Common Agriculture Policy and the European Green Deal. We need to assess the potential contribution of the agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors to achieving the targets set in both strategies," the Croatian agriculture minister said after the video conference.
Vuckovic also added that as ministers of agriculture, they had to pay particular attention on the impact the implementation of the strategies would have on all those sectors.
"Our farmers, fishermen and aquaculture producers deserve fair transition, predictable conditions and adequate financial resources. Our goal today was to encourage a holistic approach to the European Green Deal and start an open discussion of different ideas, visions, and needs of all of our citizens. We are all in this together, and every individual has a part in this process. That is why our goals and paths must be clear, and, above all, collective," Minister Vuckovic concluded.
