42 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Croatia; Koprivnica nursing home new hotspot

ZAGREB, April 22 (Hina) - In the last 24 hours there have been 42 new cases of infection with the coronavirus in Croatia, bringing their total number to 1,950, but no COVID-related deaths have been recorded since Tuesday, the national coronavirus crisis management team said on Wednesday.

Since the outbreak of the disease on 25 February, Croatia has tested 27,614 samples, including 1,340 in the last 24 hours.

There are 314 hospitalised patients, three fewer than on Tuesday, and 19 are on ventilators, one more than yesterday.

Since the first case of this disease, a total of 869 patients have recovered, or 68 more persons since yesterday. Of the 869 people who have recovered, 457 have been discharged from hospitals and 412 have not been hospitalised at all.

Health Minister Vili Beros said that a new hotspot of the infection was a nursing home in the northern town of Koprivnica, where 13 residents, two employees and two contacts have tested positive for the novel virus in the last 24 hours.

Basic reproduction number to measure COVID transmission potential is 0.8

Beros said that according to the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the basic reproduction number used to measure the transmission potential of a communicable disease, was now 0.8 for COVID-19 in Croatia. This means that one infected person could infect one more around them, he added.
