Croatian town squares ready to usher in 2014

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Dec 31 (Hina) - New Year celebrations have been organised in the squares of many Croatian cities with song, dance and champagne, including a midnight run in the northern town of Varazdin, a midnight waltz in the southern coastal resort of Dubrovnik and the eastern city of Osijek, and a sea video wall in the port city of Split.

Alongside live music, the residents of Split will be able to enjoy a video wall made of sea water, five metres wide and three metres tall, with projections of what is happening on the waterfront.

In Varazdin, 200 runners have signed up so far for the traditional 36th New Year's race and another 100 are expected to do so by 11pm. Men will run a 6,000-metre track and women a 3,000-metre track. Disabled persons in wheelchairs will be able to compete for the first time this year, tackling a 1,000-metre track.
