The cardinal said, among other things, that Christmas shone on people and comforted them, notably those whose dignity was being taken from them and who were being driven away from their rightful place.
He said the Christmas was especially close to the families which felt that their dignity was belittled, which were divided from within, whose members lost their jobs, and to the young looking for work.
"The son of God is looking on all the elderly, especially those whose existence is endangered and whose dignity is trampled," Bozanic said, also remembering the sick and the sad.
He said Christmas was also close to those in society who felt ominous consequences because of their beliefs and positions. "In the mystery of Christmas there is room also for Croatian war veterans who fought for Croatia as a country of freedom, peace and mutual respect, yet today many look with sadness on a homeland that has been brought into such a state."
