In their proposal to the Nobel Committee, they highlighted the three officials' key role in the normalisation of Belgrade-Pristina relations. The Brussels agreement represent an undeniable indicator of a truly historic achievement, they said in a letter.
The April agreement, reached with Ashton's mediation, represents a key and historic watershed both for Serbia and Kosovo as well as for the whole turbulent Balkan region, said the letter.
The lobbyists said Dacic and Thaci, by clearly breaking with the past and finding a path to a brighter future, had shown considerable dedication, courage and vision, and that Ashton had demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication and perseverance in mediation to find a consensus between the two sides.
They deserve a big recognition for taking the risk to find a solution, said the US Congressmen in groups supporting the Belgrade and Pristina policies.
Dacic said he was not officially informed about the candidacy but that the Nobel prize would represent progress in relation to previous "Hague (war crimes tribunal) candidacies." He said the greatest value of the Brussels agreement was its contribution to the stabilisation of the region.
