In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate dipped 0.1% to 12.1%, while in the EU it stayed at September's 10.9%.
In Croatia, however, unemployment went up 0.4% to 17.2% in October, with 286,000 jobless, 1,000 more than in September.
In the EU, there were 26.65 million jobless in October, including 19.3% in the euro area, down 75,000 and 61,000 on the month respectively.
Year on year, the highest rise in unemployment was recorded in Cyprus (from 13.2% to 17%), while the steepest decline was recorded in Latvia (from 14% to 11.9%).
Austria had the lowest unemployment rate in October (4.8%), followed by Germany (5.2%) and Luxembourg (5.9), while Greece had the highest (27.3%), followed by Spain (26.7%).
Youth unemployment in the EU in October stayed at September's 23.7%, with 5.675 million jobless.
The lowest youth unemployment was recorded in Germany (7.8%), Austria (9.4%) and the Netherlands (11.6%), while the highest was recorded in Greece (58%), followed by Spain (57.4%) and Croatia (52.4%).
In the euro area, youth unemployment in October was 24.4%, with 3.577 million jobless, up 0.1% from September.
