200 public buildings to undergo energy efficiency renovation in 2014-15

ZAGREB, Oct 31 (Hina) - The government on Thursday adopted a programme for the energy efficiency renovation of about 200 public buildings in 2014-15 to encourage investments estimated at HRK 400 million.

The buildings have close to 420,000 square metres of usable space in total, said Construction and Zoning Minister Anka Mrak Taritas.

The renovation is expected to save about 150 kilowatt hours of energy per metre annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 20,500 tonnes, she said.

Croatia has the obligation to revive three per cent of public building space annually and about 100 buildings are ready for energy efficiency renovation. Forty per cent of the renovation will be financed by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, building owners should cover 10% of the costs, while the remaining 50% will come from loans, the minister said, adding that the objective was to include all public buildings in the programme by 2020.

Also today, the government sent to parliament a final bill on leasing in the wake of Croatia's accession to the European Union on July 1 to enable leasing companies from other EU countries to set up subsidiaries in Croatia.

Finance Minister Slavko Linic said there were 25 leasing companies in Croatia whose assets exceeded HRK 22 billion, nearly 16.5% of the non-banking sector's total assets, and whose annual earnings exceeded HRK 140 million.

The government adopted a regulation on concessions in the coastal belt under which, as of 2104, about 10,000 commercial vessels will no longer have to pay concession fees totalling HRK 20 million, said Maritime Affairs and Transport Minister Sinisa Hajdas Doncic.

The government also adopted a tariff system for the production of electricity from renewable sources and cogeneration plants in 2014.
