Bosnian Justice Ministry spokeswoman Marina Bakic said in Sarajevo the Croatian judiciary was now expected to take action because it had been confirmed that Ilijasevic was in Croatia, where he had escaped to avoid serving the sentence handed down in Bosnia.
He is believed to have fled to Croatia last month and to be staying on the island of Vir off Zadar. He has told reporters he crossed the border with a Croatian passport. He also went to the Zadar police to apply for identification documents.
Bosnia has in the meantime issued an Interpol warrant for his arrest.
Bakic said Bosnia expected Croatia to uphold the 15-year jail sentence and send Ilijasevic to one of its prisons.
Neither country extradites their citizens to each other, but they have signed an agreement for persons with dual citizenship which allows for upholding and executing court sentences.
