The exploitation of natural gas, new fields in the eastern Mediterranean, alternative energy sources, an energy efficiency project and the delivery of Caspian gas to Europe are already impacting the relations between countries and global geopolitics, and will do so even more in future, she said at the panel on energy's role in international relations.
There is no country that does not want energy security, so more and more attention is being directed at the diversification of supply routes, sources and suppliers, Pusic added.
She recalled that the need for energy had, not so long ago, been the source of conflicts and wars. She said, however, that this was not a necessity but could be a platform for cooperation between peoples.
In the past, the political and geopolitical aspects of energy were often neglected or ignored until it was too late, yet the alternative could have been cooperation and sharing of energy sources, Pusic said.
Political inter-dependence through energy can be an excellent foundation for future cooperation, bringing many benefits to many countries, she added.
She hoped that the conclusion of the forum would be an agreement that everyone in the region should work together and point out the need to direct the energy policy towards cooperation and the seeking of common interests.
