The project is co-finanded from the IPA programme and involves Croatia's Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and partners from Italy, Slovenia, Montenegro and Albania.
An education and research centre for fighting sea pollution will be opened in Rijeka as part of the project.
The Croatian county's costs in the project will be EUR 346,600, of which 85% will come from IPA.
It is important to link regions and partners so as to ensure joint and timely mobilisation in case of accidents on the Adriatic, said Marco Meggiolaro of the Italian province of Puglia.
