All five are accused of abuse of office. Lieutenant General Gric and Brigadier General Preost are also accused of ordering the destruction of official documents in order to cover their tracks.
USKOK did not identify the accused, but according to earlier press reports, three VSOA employees were under investigation since April, including two from Grdic's office.
Reports about the misappropriation of VSOA money surfaced after the leadership was replaced in mid-2012, when the new leadership pressed charges against them. This resulted in an inspection of the agency's work and suspicion that the money had not been spent irrationally but systematically siphoned.
Grdic headed VSOA from July 2008 to July 2012, when he was appointed chief defence inspector. Prior to that, he was a senior military official. From August 2003 to September 2007, he served as Croatia's military representative to NATO. He was decorated 11 times for his contribution to the armed forces.
