War crimes charges pressed against 21 former Yugoslav army members

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Sept 25 (Hina) - Sibenik police have pressed war crimes charges against 21 members of the former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), all of whom are unavailable to the Croatian judiciary, for physically and mentally abusing 23 members of Bosnia's Croat Defence Council in Knin in spring 1992.

County police said on Wednesday they had completed an investigation which established that 21 JNA military police officers had imprisoned 23 HVO members during an attack and a siege of the Kupres area in Bosnia and Herzegovina on April 6-11, 1992.

They took them to a military prison in the Knin area, Croatia, where they tortured them. They did the same to them in Knin's county prison from April 24 to May 14.

As a result of the torture, two of the POWs died, while the others were left permanently disabled.
