This is politically unfair and rude, Gordan Jandrokovic, a committee member from the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), told a joint news conference.
He said Parliament Speaker Josip Leko "inappropriately curried favour with the members of the government" during Question Time on Wednesday, adding that the ruling parties "are cheating the opposition parties in working bodies too now" and that the European Affairs Committee "is being prevented from working because of the SDP's unfair conduct."
Branko Vuksic of the Labour Party said the ruling parties were avoiding a discussion on the EAW law because "they don't want citizens to hear that there is a different opinion on the matter."
"We are returning to the times before the fall of the Iron Curtain, when second and different opinions were prohibited," he said, adding that the committee had not reconvened because the SDP and its junior coalition partner, the Croatian People's Party, did not see eye to eye on the extradition law.
"The big leader (SDP president and Prime Minister Zoran) Milanovic, who brought Croatia into conflict with the European Union out of spite, must be protected no matter what."
Boro Grubisic of the HDSSB said the conflict had damaged Croatia's reputation and led to increased monitoring and a suspension of funds for Croatia's entry into the Schengen area.
The three opposition MPs do not believe that the European Commission has agreed to a compromise under which the EAW would be applied fully and without limits as of January 1.
They requested that the law be aligned with the EU and enforced right away without which, Jandrokovic said, the SDP cannot count on support for constitutional changes to lift the statute of limitations on politically motivated crimes.
Vuksic said Milanovic should say why the law cannot be changed now, adding that reports to the effect that the Commission had agreed to January 1 were an attempt to save the ruling coalition, which he is confident will survive.
Grubisic said the HDSSB had insisted from the start on swiftly aligning the EAW law with the acquis given the damage the delay was causing Croatia.
