It was organised by the Institute of the Regions of Europe (IRE), Vukovar County, the European Commission, and the Austrian Ministry of European and International Affairs, bringing together representatives of regional assembles and experts from Croatia, Bosnian cantons, the Bosnian Serb entity, and the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina.
The meeting was organised to inform regional parliaments about their responsibility in pursuing EU policies.
Speaking to the press, IRE president Franz Schausberger said municipalities, towns and regions should become small ambassadors who implemented EU policies and projects to the benefit of their communities.
He said the EU could survive only if their base - municipalities, towns and regions - worked that way.
Austrian Ambassador to Croatia Andrea Ikic Bohn said Austria was preparing 12 cultural projects to bring the EU closed to citizens, and that one of the projects would be realised in Vukovar.
Vukovar County Prefect Bozo Galic said Vukovar's geographical position enabled it to become a bridge between citizens and regions in the EU with those aspiring to join the Union.
