International Summer School of Human Rights ends

Autor: half
NOVI VINODOLSKI, Sept 7 (Hina) - The International Summer School of Human Rights in the coastal town of Novi Vinodolski, which was attended by 25 law students from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, ended on Saturday with a message about the need to protect the humane and expert protection of human rights in judicial proceedings.

The six-day school took place in the town hall where the renowned Law Codex of Vinodol, one of the oldest European law texts, was signed on 6 January 1288.

The lecturers were eminent legal experts from Rijeka and the Croatian Constitutional Court, as well as Croatia's legal representative to the European Court of Human Rights.

Their message to the students was to protect human rights, humanely and expertly, in all criminal, civil and administrative proceedings because, they said, Croatia is too often on the agenda of that Strasbourg-based court.

The lecturers were agreed that the 1950 Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which Croatia signed in 1997, should be respected more and constantly applied in all proceedings at Croatian courts.

The number of repeated proceedings at the Strasbourg court will then be much lower, they said. Croatia is fourth in the number of cases at the court among the 47 members within its jurisdiction.
