The monument was unveiled by Veterans Minister Predrag Matic and two donors, Dzemi Husic and Haris Miminovic. The names of 27 Bosniaks from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County are engraved on the memorial plaque. Another two names will be engraved at a later date.
Minister Matic said Bosniaks accounted for five percent of all veterans and as many as 10% of all those killed.
Commenting on the latest events in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar following highly charged protests over signs in both Cyrillic and Latin on public institutions, Matic said the law must be respected. "We may not like these laws, but the essence of democracy is that the decisions of a majority must be respected. The law and justice do not always go hand in hand, but the law must be above justice," Matic said.
