The contingent comprises 154 Croatian and 22 Montenegrin troops, as a continuation of the partnership between the two countries within the A-5 initiative, the Croatian Defence Ministry said.
The 22nd contingent also includes 56 Croatian troops who are already in Afghanistan.
By participating in this mission over the past ten years, Croatian troops have contributed, together with the allies, to changing the living conditions of the Afghan population, said Lt. Col. Drago Lovric, military chief of staff and deputy defence minister.
He said the ISAF mission had transformed from one of security to one of transferring knowledge and ensuring conditions that will enable the Afghans to take charge of their own security.
Lovric said the mission also provided for the strengthening of partnerships. He especially greeted the Montenegrin troops who are going to Afghanistan as part of the Croatian contingent for the second time.
