Radmanovic: Bosnia-Croatia border deal won't be ratified unless changed

Autor: half
SARAJEVO, Aug 21 (Hina) - Bosnian Presidency member Nebojsa Radmanovic said on Wednesday that a Bosnian-Croatian border agreement would not be ratified until the demarcation line drawn on the Una river near Kostajnica in 1999 was changed.

He called on the Croatian government to negotiate this issue with those in Bosnia and Herzegovina who were authorised to do so, saying such people existed, contrary to what Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic claimed.

Speaking to the press in Sarajevo, Radmanovic said the agreement was not good for Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically, its Serb entity Republika Srpska (RS). He said that as the Presidency member from RS, he would not vote for the ratification unless the border on the Una near Kostajnica was changed, and that he said this to Croatian President Ivo Josipovic ten months ago.

Radmanovic said the entire agreement, signed in 1999 by the then Croatian and Bosnian presidents Franjo Tudjman and Alija Izetbegovic, was contentious because the decision to sign it was made and the signing took place on the same day.

Commenting on Milanovic's claim that "there's no one (in Bosnia) with whom to discuss" the border agreement, Radmanovic said "there are people who have been authorised to do so by (Bosnia's two entities)."

He criticised Bosnian Transport Minister Damir Hadzic for his "unauthorised" statements on the border, the Peljesac bridge and the Neum corridor.

He said such statements "cause damage to Bosnia and Herzegovina" and that transit through Bosnian territory via a corridor was not decided on by the minister but by the Presidency.

Radmanovic went on to say that the existing agreement on border crossings with Croatia should be changed through negotiations with Croatia and the European Union, and that Bosnia made a decision to that effect ten days ago.

He added, however, that outstanding border issues did not affect Croatian-Bosnian relations. "It's important that we have good relations with Croatia, and both countries have to work on that."
