June was the thirteenth consecutive month recording a fall in the quantity of milk bought from farmers, with declines of over 10% recorded for the tenth consecutive month and of over 20% for four months in a row.
DZS takes its numbers on the production of milk from the Croatian Agricultural Agency's milk control laboratory.
The Croatian Alliance of Dairy Farmers (HSUPM) last month raised the alarm over the deteriorating situation in this sector.
HSUPM said that over the past year more than 3,000 dairy farms had been shut down and in the past four months milk production had been reduced by 120 million litres. Each month 30 million litres of milk less is being produced, subsidies have not been paid in full, and the purchase price of milk is low, it added.
