Over the years, the village has seen major changes and what began as just a few buildings has expanded to include residential units - condos, houses and apartments of the Trogir or Konoba models - to commercial businesses and retail shops located around a replica of St. Mark's Square in Venice.
"It is unlike any other place around," said Greg Fuller, Adriatica development team member. "It obviously has an aesthetic appeal that draws a lot of people here. We have people by the hundreds on the weekends coming out and using our site as a background for photos."
Adriatica has plans for 54 single-family homes, roughly 25 percent of which are already complete. There are also 26 condominiums under construction and for sale, and 211 rental units that Fuller said could be converted into condos are also being built, the Star Local News said.
"We have about 400,000 square feet under construction, and that's a combination of things: retail, residential and commercial," he said.
