Supreme Court reduces war crime prison terms for ex-Pumas

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Aug 7 (Hina) - The Croatian Supreme Court has reduced the sentences against three of five former members of the 7th guard brigade Pumas convicted in October 2011 for executing six Serb prisoners of war in 1995.

The Supreme Court ruling, delivered to the Zagreb County Court last month, reduced to four and a half years in prison the six-year sentences for Tihomir Savoric and Nenad Jurinac as well as the five-year sentence for Antun Novacic.

The ruling upheld the two-year prison sentences for Robert Precehtjer and Robert Bevak as well as the acquittals of Emil Crncec and Goran Gaca.

During the trial, the prosecution claimed the war crime was ordered by the brigade's then commander, Ivan Korade, who committed suicide in April 2008 after killing four people a few days before as well as a police officer during his arrest.
