Visiting the site, Environment and Nature Protection Minister Mihael Zmajlovic said Pliva's investments were an example of how the economy and the ecology could go hand in hand.
Investing in green production is not only an obligation and a cost, but also a smart investment in sustainable development, he said.
The minister said the best environmental protection technology was being applied in Savski Marof. He said such investments enabled the increase of industrial capacities, while reducing pressure on the environment.
The Savski Marof investment is part of Pliva's $200 million investment cycle, the largest private investment in Croatia in the past two years, said CEO Tihomir Oreskovic, adding that more than 90 per cent of the products in the new plant would be for export.
Production is set to begin in early 2014.
