Krsko nuclear plant upgrading security, technology

Autor: half
LJUBLJANA, May 30 (Hina) - The Krsko nuclear power plant set aside about EUR 30 million for the modernisation of security equipment last year and will invest another 200 million in security and technology over the next five years, the director of the jointly-owned Croatian-Slovenian facility, Stane Rozman, told reporters in Krsko, Slovenia on Thursday.

In terms of security, the power plant opted for a proactive approach and a mobile strategy based on a US model, he said.

The strategy can be adapted and quickly implemented and Krsko began applying it in 2012 after the accident at the Japanese nuclear plant Fukushima, before European stress tests were conducted, which Rozman said had shown very good results.

Those results put Krsko among nuclear power plants with full security regulation, he added.
