He said the presence of many believers and visitors had been expected but that the participation of the most prominent state and local officials gave the event special significance.
"It is about mutual respect and acknowledgement. Croatia is certainly an example to Europe of how to treat a minority people. The event and the speeches pass, guests leave, but the impression of belonging remains and it can't be replaced."
Mujkanovic said all Muslims as well as all other citizens were impressed to see Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel personally welcome all guests at the inauguration.
He highlighted the attendance of Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and the senior officials, notably Josipovic's talks with "our reis Husein Kavazovic and mufti Aziz Hasanovic."
