He especially welcomed Parliament Speaker Josip Leko, the president of the National Minorities Council, Aleksandar Tolnauer, and Serbian Ambassador Stanimir Vukcevic.
The metropolitan said he was glad about the new relations between the Church and the state representatives.
"We especially pray to God for the relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Serbia to open a new page of history, notably as Croatia is joining the European Union," he said, hopeful that this would be achieved in Serbia too.
He also wished for "satisfying solutions in Kosovo and Metohija."
Archpriest Dusko Spasojevic read out the Easter epistle from Serb Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej.
After the service and talks with Metropolitan Jovan, Parliament Speaker Leko said Easter was a holiday of hope and wished the Orthodox believers in Croatia a happy Easter. "I want them... to feel as equal citizens of Croatia and for Croatia to be their country which will provide for all human and national rights."
Easter according to the Julian calendar was also celebrated with services in Vukovar-Srijem County and the cities of Osijek, Dubrovnik, and Rijeka. There are about 10,000 Orthodox believers in the northern Adriatic port of Rijeka and about 15,000 in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
