More and more Croats to stay home rather than travel for holidays

Autor: itom
ZAGREB, March 17 (Hina) - Only 48% of Croatians are planning to go on several-day-long holidays this year, while 52% will stay at home or go on brief excursions, according to the findings of a survey conducted among 1,000 respondents by the GfK pollster.

Thus, for the first time in 11 years, more Croatians are about to stay home than those who will travel for five or more days.

The last three years have seen a stagnation regarding the statistics about Croatians planning to make holiday trips, and in 2013 the number of Croatians planning to go on a trip at least once this year has hit a record low.

Of those 48% of respondents who are intending to travel, less than one third (31.3%) are to travel outside their town only once this year.

Furthermore, 10% are planning two holidays longer than five days, and 6.3% have plans for three or more such holidays.

Broken down by region, residents of the capital of Zagreb seem the most "agile" travellers (64%), while at the bottom are Dalmatians (24%).

Broken down by age, the most travellers are among those aged between 15 and 24 (65%), while only 24% of respondents aged above 65 say they are planning to travel for longer than five days this year.

The survey was conducted on a representative sample.
