Speaking at an extraordinary press conference after the opposition Democratic Party (DS) earlier today called for parliament to be dissolved and early elections scheduled, Dacic said no previous government had achieved such results in such a short time as his government.
He said his government "has taken on the toughest job, to take Serbia into the European Union," and that it was doing it by "negotiating with the biggest opponent, (Kosovo PM Hashim) Thaci."
Dacic said his government had stopped the economic downturn, the decline of the deficit and the growth of unemployment, adding that the national currency was stable and that the government's tasks were too important to be interrupted.
Dacic said his cabinet was fighting hard for Serbia to be given a date for the start of EU entry talks, for attracting investment and pursuing the fight against corruption.
Any other scenario would stop Serbia, he added.
Earlier today, DS leader Dragan Djilas said, among other things, that the incumbent government had no economic programme or any idea how to improve living standards, and that its policy towards Kosovo was unknown.
The leader of the opposition Liberal Democratic Party, Cedomir Jovanovic, agreed with Djilas that elections were the only option.
