Parliament adopts new chemicals law

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Feb 1 (Hina) - Parliament on Friday passed a new chemicals law aligned with European Union directives, defining the conditions that as of July, when Croatia is scheduled to join the EU, physical and legal persons must meet to protect human life and health as well as the environment from the harmful effect of chemicals.

The law defines the responsibilities of those producing chemicals, placing them on the market, exporting, importing or using them.

Parliament also passed a new law on the state commission controlling public procurement.

Amendments to laws on misdemeanors, land books, defence, military service and mining were sent into second reading.

Bills on cultural councils and electronic media were also sent into second reading.

MPs ratified a number of European regulations and memoranda as well as treaties, including with Montenegro on Euro-Atlantic partnership.

Parliament will reconvene on Tuesday.
