Croatian, Bosnian Catholic bishops meet in Zagreb

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - The Bishops' Conferences of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina held their 15th annual meeting in Zagreb on Monday, at which the apostolic nuncio in Croatia, Archbishop Alessandro D'Errico, recalled the Holy Father's and the Holy See's concern about the future of the Catholic Church in Bosnia because of a lack of help to an organised return of expelled Croat Catholics, the two conferences said in a press release on Tuesday.

The meeting was chaired by the president of the Croatian Bishops' Conference, Archbishop of Zadar Zelimir Puljic.

In his address, D'Errico regretted that the return of Bosnian Croats did not improve last year, saying the Vatican expected a report on what the two bishops' conference had done to improve the situation of Catholics in Bosnia.

He told the bishops the Croatian authorities had promised him that they would do more for the equality of Bosnian Croats and the sustainable return of those Croat refugees and displaced who wanted to return.

The Bosnian bishops thanked everyone who showed understanding for the "unenviable" position of Catholics in Bosnia, notably in the Serb entity, where only five per cent of their pre-war number remains.
