Serbian ambassador criticises Izetbegovic for poor Belgrade-Sarajevo relations

Autor: half
SARAJEVO, Jan 11 (Hina) - Serbian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Ninoslav Stojadinovic on Friday accused Bosnian Presidency member Bakir Izetbegovic of spoiling Bosnian-Serbian relations by constantly criticising Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic's statements.

In an interview with Banja Luka's Nezavisne Novine daily, Stojadinovic said Serbian-Bosnian relations were actually excellent, with only Izetbegovic spoiling them by refusing to meet with Nikolic.

When he chaired the Bosnian Presidency, Izetbegovic criticised Nikolic's statements in which he denied the Srebrenica genocide and questioned Bosnia and Herzegovina's survival. He also objected to Nikolic's statement that Vukovar, Croatia was a Serbian town, which led to a cooling of relations between Zagreb and Nikolic.

Those statements prompted Izetbegovic to refuse a meeting with Nikolic and Turkish President Abdullah Gul in Istanbul last year.

Stajadinovic went on to say that he did not see why Kosovo officials could talk with Nikolic and Izetbegovic refuse to do so, adding that the international community should exert "mild pressure" for this to change.

The ambassador said that despite all that, Belgrade-Sarajevo contacts would continue, with Bosnian Council of Ministers Vjekoslav Bevanda scheduled to officially visit Serbia early next month.
