VIENNA, May 23 (Hina) - The Conference of Community and European
Affairs Committees of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) on Tuesday
confirmed progress in the negotiating process between Croatia and the European
Union, adding that other countries in the region would have to do a lot of work
to adjust to European standards and meet EU membership requirements. A two-day Vienna meeting of COSAC ended on Tuesday with participants in the
conference, including a Croatian delegation led by parliamentarian Neven
Mimica, adopting a joint statement.
Addressing the conference, Mimica said that Croatia was capable of
completing negotiations with the European Union in less than three years and
join the European Union as a full member.
However, Croatia's admission to the Union also depends on the EU's more
resolute implementation of its decisions on expansion, he added.
At the meeting, COSAC discussed Europe's future, the European
constitution, and the Union's expansion to the southeast of Europe.
