"It all gone very quiet and unfortunately we've still got the rest of this week and one and half working days of next week to go before the holiday," said a trader. Earlier lower prices on the Malaysian palm oil market set the tone in Europe although there was a slightly recovery in soy oil prices towards the close following the higher opening in Chicago. Some traders said buyers felt there was more downside potential in the market following the easier close in Malaysia and most had withdrawn as a result. However, others said the downturn on the Malaysian market was an overdue technical correction and firm fundamentals in the the Far East would limit the losses. At the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $5 to $7.50 down with the one reported trade of the day, Jan at $570 a tonne, remaining unconfirmed. Refined palm oil sellers were $2.50 to $5 down with no further bsuiness reported. Lauric oils were neglected and closed with coconut oil unchanged to $5 down and palmkernel oil $2.50 lower. Dutch soy oil recovered slightly towards the close to end unchanged to 0.50 guilders up after Jan traded at 89.25 and Feb/Mar at 91.25 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Dutch/EU rape oil finished mixed at 0.50 guilders down to 0.50 guilders up after Feb/Apr traded at 94 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Based on sellers' prices the premium for rape oil over soyoil was 2.25 to three guilders at the close, against 1.25 to 3.50 guilders on Tuesday.
