"Today's performance was really weak," one trader said. "It was an inside day, very quiet." Benchmark March futures ended 0.05 cent a lb weaker, at 109.90 cents, after ranging from 111.00 to 109.25. May fell 0.25 cent, to 107.15, while the back months finished down 1.00 to up 0.30. Traders said much of the morning's activity centered around the spot December contract. On its final day of trading, the spot December contract rose 0.65 cent, to end at 125.15 cents. The December/March switch, a barometer of spot availability, widened to 15.25 cents from 14.55 at the close Monday. While some traders believe the tight spot supply situation will spill over, bolstering March's premium to May, other traders said increased availability of Central American and Colombian coffees should ease supply concerns. They said recent rise in consumer coffee stocks, while modest, confirmed the flow of coffee is beginning to pick up. Monthly inventory data released by the Green Coffee Association of New York after Monday's close showed supplies of green coffee housed in U.S. warehouses rose in November by 4,000 60-kg bags, to 1,264,000 bags. Traders continued to monitor a cold airmass which some forecasters said could bring freezing temperatures and possible damage to the Mexican coffee belt later this week. Technically, March resistance was seen at 111.50, then 115.00, while support was pegged at 108.50 cents, and then toward 105.00 cents. Turnover was thin, at an estimated 4,803 lots. 181110 MET dec 96
