Speculative shortcovering gave the market an initial boost while locals were also light buyers. Steady trade selling kept prices below resistance at 10.40 cents a lb for March delivery, dealers said. Firmer resistance was pegged at 10.50. Light support was pegged at today's low of 10.30 and major support at 10.23. The spot month closed 0.01 firmer at 10.31 cents, traded 10.39 to 10.30. The back months finished 0.02 to 0.05 higher. Volume was estimated at 9,276 lots. While the settlement just above the day's lows does not bode well for a rally, the market will probably not make a major downward move unless firm support is taken out.
