Soft oils closed lower despite early gains in Chicago as buyers challenged the sellers higher level posted in the morning. "It had to happen, the market has been so quiet that if buyers took on the sellers they were bound to get lower prices," said a trader. By the close of business Dutch soy oil was unchanged to one guilders down and rape oil 0.50 to 0.25 guilders lower. No further business was reported for soy oil, but in rape oil Dec traded at 92.50, Jan at 93.25, Feb/Mar at 94.25 amd Apr/Jun at 95.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Based on sellers' prices, the premium for rape oil over soyoil was 3.75 to 4.50 guilders at close against 3.50 to 4.75 guilders on Tuesday. Nearby crude palm oil remains tight with sellers for December $10 up at $580 while forwards positions were $2.50 down to $2.50 up. Refined palm oil closed unchanged to $2.50 up. Coconut oil closed mixed at $5 down to $5 up after Nov/Dec traded at $800, Dec/Jan at $775 and Jan/Mar at $760 a tonne cif.
