"We need something new to stimulate the market," said a trader. Small gains at the close of the Malaysian market were of little help to the palm oil sector while players were reluctant to follow the easier trend in Chicago. Traders said it would come as no suprise to find the Chicago market had closed higher when they return on Monday. "More often than not Chicago ends higher on a Friday so we are in no great hurry to mark prices down," said a trader. Crude palm oil cif Europe finish $5 up after Dec traded at $552.50 a tonne while refined oils were unchanged to $2.50 down with no further business reoported. On a tradeless lauric oil market coconut oil finished $5 to $15 up with buyers $10 under the sellers. Palmkernel oil was $5 to $10 higher at the close. Dutch soy oil closed unchanged to 0.50 guilders down after Feb/Mar traded at 89 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Dutch/EU rapeoil finished 0.50 guilders lower after Jan fetched 93.25 guilders. Based on sellers' prices, the premium for rape oil over soy oil was 1.50 to 5.25 guilders at the close against two to 5.25 guilders at Thursday's close.
