Scale-down buying by the trade limited losses and kept prices trapped in a narrow range, they added. "It is a steady market," one trader said. "The specs seem to have hit their maximum long positions. In the short-term, we may be nearing a top." Most-active March ended 0.85 cent a lb lower, at 113.10, after ranging from 114.95 to 112.70. Spot December futures fell 1.50 cents a lb on the day, to 120.75, while the remaining months finished 0.55 weaker to 0.10 firmer. Traders said the March contract appeared to stuck in a band between 116 and 112. Technically, they said March would need to breach near-term resistance at 115.00-115.50 to attract buyers. The subsequent upside target seen at 117.50. To the downside, support was put at the 112.00-cent level, with strong psychological support noted at at 110.00. Dealings in the December contract, which entered its month-long notice period yesterday, has been surprisingly subdued, traders said. "Nothing has really happened yet," a trader said. "But it may be the calm before the storm." December's open interest as of Tuesday remained relatively high at 2,123 lots, the equivalent of more than 500,000 bags of coffee. No delivery notices were issued again on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the CSCE reported earlier this week Monday that U.S. certified coffee stocks fell to just 321 60-kg bags in the week ended Nov.15. They also reported there were 1,250 bags pending grading in Miami. The day's volume was light, at an estimated 5,266 lots. 211109 MET nov 96
